Fiji is located in the South Pacific and comprises of 333 islands, many uninhabited. Fiji enjoys a tropical climate making it the perfect getaway year round! Entries are granted for Australians (visa exempt country) for a period of 4 months or less. A valid passport for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay and an onward ticket is required. Nationals of other countries may require pre arranged visas. Check with the Fiji High Commission in your country. For those wishing to stay for an extended period, check with the department of immigration regarding the requirements and procedure. Those wishing to work in Fiji, even temporarily, will need to obtain the appropriate work permits/sponsorship.
All visitors are subject to 15% Government Value Added Tax (VAT) applicable to all goods and services, plus 5% Service Turnover Tax (STT) applicable to visitors staying in hotels and resorts.
All international passengers disembarking in Fiji are able to purchase a variety of goods tax free, providing they are not for sale. The following limits apply:
2.25 litres of liquor or 4.5 litres of wine or beer
250 cigarettes or 250 grams of cigars or a combination of tobacco products not exceeding 250 grams
Other dutiable goods not exceeding $1000FD in value
Vat Refund Scheme
The Tourist VAT Refund Scheme (TVRS) allows tourists to claim a refund of VAT paid on goods purchased in Fiji (over $500) and taken out of Fiji via Nadi International Airport or Suva Wharf as the final port of departure to a foreign destination. Click here for more information.
Currency & Banking
The Fijian Dollar is the local currency unit. Banks are open 9.30-4.30 Monday to Friday. ANZ operates a 24 hour service at Nadi International Airport's arrivals concourse. Major credit cards are accepted by most hotels.
Tipping is not encouraged in Fiji.
The Fijian current is 240 volts AC 50hz. Fiji has 3 power pin outlets, the same as Australia.
Fiji enjoys a warm tropical environment. During the cooler months May - November, you can expect temperatures averaging max 29 degrees. Summer months December - April, you can expect temperatures averaging max 33 degrees.
Light casual wear is recommended when visiting Fiji. Please be aware that modesty is required in town and when visiting local villages.
English is the official language in Fiji. Indigenous Fijians also speak Fijian and IndoFijians also speak Hindustani.
We highly recommend travel insurance. If you can't afford insurance, you can't afford to travel!
